Sorry I've been out for so long

Sorry everyone but I've been away because I was a huge tennis tournament in Indianapolis for 4 days. If you read my info you'll see I'm a hardcore tennis player. I didn't do as well as I had hoped, but it was a good experience. I'm going to get back in to regular posting soon.

What a sad Christmas for Tony Dungy and his family

Just days before Christmas, a time of celebrating Jesus Christ and being with family, Tony Dungy's 18 year old son James took his own life. Last year I lost my mother in August, my great grandmother in late October, and then my beloved grandfather in November, so that Christmas was hard for me. But this happened almost 2 or 3 days before Christmas. Though I have lost people in the past, none have been from suicide. I can't imagine what is going through Tony Dungy's head. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, coach.

Johnny Damon

Well it's official. Johnny Damon is a Yankee. This will go over great with Red Sox nation. (Hope you caught my sarcasm). One other thing. What's with all the infielders LA has? Izturis, Furcal, Kent, and now Garciaparra? Where are they going to put all them? my guess is Izturis at 2nd, Kent at 1st, Furcal at short, and I guess Garciaparra at 3rd? They are going to be the best in the west next year though.

The Colts

If you were wondering why I haven't posted anything about the Colts, it was because I was sparing you all. I figured you had already heard enough. I figured sportscasters and SportsCenter broadcasters and analysts would milk it for all its worth. It happened yesterday, and I've heard and read enough about it to last me a year. I knew it would cause a bunch of hooplah and it's so annoying. It happens everytime when someone goes undefeated for a long period of time then gets beat. I mean seriously come on now they are 13-1. One loss. Everybody loses, the only thing different was that Indianapolis decided to win 13 games before they did so.

Texas and Louisville

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Wow. Well, Texas was destroyed at home by Bruce Pearl's Tennessee team, satisfying my post about Texas being overated. Also, #4 Louisville was manhandled by UK. This just makes me laugh, particularly the Texas game. I mean, it's one thing to be beat, but like they were? Come on now! This was a team that was supposed to be a contendor for the title. Also, USI, or University of Southern Indiana, a D-II that is here in my home town and who I'm a big fan of, lost to Tennessee by 5. By Law of Detachment, USI should be able to compete with a Top 25 team. Wow.

Big 10

I would like everyone to know that the Big 10 has 6 teams in this weeks ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, more than any conference in the nation. The ACC has 5, and the Big East has 4.

Texas

OVER-RAT-ED! (clap, clap, clap clap clap).

Michigan

I'm sorry but I'm just not that impressed by this Michigan team at all. Their wins over Miami and Notre Dame are not all that impressive. Yes, they blew out Miami, but only managed a 4 point win over Notre Dame. Their only non-conference matchup against a ranked team is against an overated UCLA team. Besides their wins over Miami and Notre Dame, their other wins include wins over teams like Central Michigan, Boston U., Butler, Deleware St., and South Florida. Against Boston U. they managed to squeak by with a 5 point win, and got away with a 4 point win against Butler. I don't see what all the fuss is about, they haven't played anyone. The remainder of their non-conference schedule include games against teams like Miami (Ohio), Coppin St., and Chicago St. I don't see how a team who has not played anyone good can be considered for a Top 25 bid.

ESPN Reporters

How often is it that an ESPN reporters always say something like "he is possibly the best in history." That's a strong statement. ESPN's Doug Gottlieb said Adam Morrison is the best player in the NCAA. Yes, Morrison is very good without a doubt, but the best? J.J. Redick, Shelden Williams, and Daniel Gibson would have something to say about that. Also, as I was watching the Heisman Trophy presentation, the reporters said Matt Leinart was quite possibly the best college QB ever. Did it ever occur to him that John Elway, Joe Montana, and Steve Young, to name a few, all played college ball as well? Some refer to Reggie Bush as the best back the NCAA has ever seen. Again, what about O.J. Simpson, Barry Sanders, Willis McGahee even. They were all great backs. They really need to think about what they are saying before just arbitrarily saying that they are the best ever.

I will be taking your apologies now

If you didn't happen to catch IU destroy UK 79 - 53 on Saturday, you missed a show. You miss IU make UK look like a Biddy Basketball team. UK shot 2/27 from 3-point range. That's .07 %. That just makes me laugh. I will now be taking your apology letters from those of you who persecuted me after the Indiana State loss. It looks like the Cats got declawed, or perhaps lost their meow...

Wow

Duke - 97

Texas - 66

Redick - 41 ponts

Tonight is the night

Tonight, the Winner of the 2005 Heisman Trophy will be awarded. Obviously, USC RB Reggie Bush is the frontrunner for the award. Texas QB Vince is making a strong case though. In my opinion though, the historic Heisman Trophy should go to Reggie Bush. I have never seen a back so dominant, so athletic as Bush. He has made some plays that I don't think even some NFL backs could make. He deserves to be awarded for his work, and I believe he will be.

More Action in the MLB

Another day, another busy day in the MLB. Boston made a deal with Atlanta in which Renteria will be shipped to Atlanta for 3B prospect Andy Marte. Renteria will fill Furcal's spot, and Marte is supposed to be one of the best up and coming 3B in the league. The Marlins continued their dismantling of their team by letting Todd Jones go. He signed with the Tigers. Long-time Cincinnatti Red faithful Sean Casey has been dealt to the Pirates for pitcher Dave Williams. The Nationals got a major upgrade by acquiring 2B Alfonso Soriano for OF Brad Wilkerson. But the one thing that has got my panties in a jumble has been what the Cardinals did, or didn't do rather. They did not offer arbitration for 2B Mark Grudzielanek or OF Reggie Sanders. This upsets mainly because these two were intrigal parts of their dominating team they had this year. If you know me at all, which not many of you do, you will know I am a HUGE Cardinals fan. Nothing upsets me more than when they let go hardworkers like Sanders and Grudzielanek. Grudzielanek was one of the nice surprises the Cardinals had this year, and I was looking for great things to happen with him next season. To top it off they fill those holes with Aaron Miles and Larry Bigbie. I mean no disrespect to these ballplayers, but let's think now. They are no Mark Grudzielanek or Reggie Sanders. I don't know what they are thinking, but I'm just so thankful they didn't let Eckstein go.

MLB Free Agent Sigings

Wow, what an offseason the MLB is having. The Cubs have now signed CF Juan Pierre. The Boston RedSox could be having the best offseason by signig Josh Beckett, Mike Lowell, and Guillermo Mota from the Marlins. The Dodgers signed SS Rafael Furcal to a colassal contract of $39 million, and named Grady Little their new manager. The Brewers have dealt 2b Mark Loretta to Boston for C Doug Mirabelli, which will make for a killer defense up the middle with Renteria at short and Loretta at 2nd. Toronto signed RP B.J. Ryan to a huge contract, which might I point out was a completely stupid idea. They spent pretty much all their money on a closer who wasn't even that good last year. However, they did manage to sign P A.J. Burnette. Paul Lo Duca is now a Met, and Philadelphia acquired RP Tom Gordon from New York. Now as you can see, Florida has now essentially dismantled their entire team, with the exception of All-Star Outfielder Miguel Cabrera. I have no idea why teams do this it is pointless. That team was very talented, and now I won't know half of the guys on that team. If you recall, they did this back after they won the World Series in 1997. Yeah, that really worked out great didn't it. Also, The Astros said no arbitration for Roger Clemens, so his future is a toss-up. All-Star C Johnny Estrada has been traded to Arizona, and the World Series Champion Chicago White Sox have cut loose long time faithful Frank Thomas. Now the big rumor is the Dodger's have joined the talks in the Bobby Abreu campaign. Please don't forget that Johnny Damon is a free agent. Joining that list are the likes of Mike Piazza, Matt Morris, Mark Grudzielanek, and Sammy Sosa. This season should turn out to an interesting one, to say the least. This is what I love about baseball, and I cannot wait for next season to start.

Chad Johnson

Bengals Wide Receiver Chad Johnson guarantees that his team will beat the Colts in the AFC Championship and make it to the Super Bowl. He also says his team will score 40 points from here on out. These are strong comments. How often do we see someone guarantee something and it never happens. Yeah you can say Rasheed Wallace was successful when he did this, but now the Bengals are under pressure to win because of what Johnson said.

Evaluation

So I've had this blog for a little over a week and a half, and I was just seeing what everyone thought about it. Your comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for reading, and please spread the word about my blog!

The Most Debated Issue this year

How many times have we heard the question "Should Tony Dungy sit his star players such as Manning, James, Harrison, Wayne." Some believe he should in order to "keep them rested" for the playoffs and potentially the Super Bowl. They do not want to be known as just another team to go 15-1 in a season and not win the Super Bowl because that has happened way too often. I think he needs to keep his best players on the field no matter the situation. This is a special season for them so far. You don't want to ruin it by putting in some inexperienced Quarterback who throws 3 interceptions and gets your team a loss.

High School Players skipping college

Is it right for a player to skip college and go straight to the NBA? Some say "no they need to get their education first, that that is the most important thing". Some say "Why go to college and risk getting hurt when you can go to the NBA right away and make millions of dollars?" Personally, I'm neutral. Yeah, it is a little annoying to see the players sign with colleges and then back out and go straight to the NBA. Take Josh Smith for instance. See, I'm a huge Indiana fan, and when Josh Smith, who now plays for the Atlanta Hawks and won the Slam Dunk contest, signed with Indiana, I was ecstatic. Then I get my local paper one morning and it reads "Smith to leave for NBA." I was stunned. Atleast with the new rule the best high school players, like Greg Oden, have to go to college for atleast a year.

More Problems in Detroit

After the recent firing of head coach Steve Mariucci, more problems are arising in Detroit. People are starting to point fingers and other players in the locker room. Joey Harrington seems to be the epicenter of those pointing fingers. CB Dre Bly was very vocal in this, as well as half of the locker room. Mike and Mike in the Morning on ESPN Radio reported that this morning. They said nearly half of the players said Harrington was the problem. Who do you believe is the problem? I believe it is president Matt Millen.
